EN| Christmas in the warm south of Spain under palm trees... not many of us can imagine that easily. Please, how could there arise some Christmas spirit? And most of them go back to their home country just in time for Christmas, although there is a great Christmas atmosphere here in Spain and the contrast is quite delightful.
ES| Pasar la navidad en el cálido sur de España bajo palmeras... muchos no se pueden imaginar esto preguntándose ¿cómo puede nacer el espíritu navideño sin nieve y tinto caliente? Y la mayoría de los guiris vuelve a sus países de origen justo a tiempo para la fiesta de navidad, aunque aquí hay un gran ambiente navideño y el contraste tiene su encanto.
DE| Weihnachten im warmen Süden von Spanien unter Palmen...das können sich viele von uns nicht so gut vorstellen. Wie soll da bitte Weihnachtsstimmung aufkommen? Und die meisten fahren denn auch pünktlich zum Weihnachtsfest wieder zurück in ihre Heimat, dabei herrscht hier eine großartige weihnachtliche Stimmung und der Kontrast hat durchaus seinen Reiz.

In every small town there are various cultural Christmas events such as concerts, masses and live nativity scenes. The best way to find out about the program is to ask at the tourist office.

ES| ¿Qué sería la Navidad sin un árbol de Navidad? Debido a la escasez de pinos, decoramos aquí en España las palmeras o colocamos un árbol artificial. Se queda igual de hermoso.
DE| Was wäre Weihnachten ohne einen Weihnachtsbaum? Aus Mangel an Kiefernbäumen, schmückt man in Spanien ganz einfach Palmen oder stellt einen künstlichen Baum auf. Das ist genauso schön.
EN| Advent calendars and Saint Nicholas are little known in Andalusia or rather only from the supermarket. The gifts are usually given to the children on Twelfth Day on January 6, but in the meantime, Papa Noel and gift-giving have also become established on Christmas Eve, so that there are now gifts on both days. ES| Los calendarios de Adviento y San Nicolás son poco conocidos en Andalucía, o mejor dicho, sólo en el supermercado. Los niños suelen recibir sus regalos el día de los Reyes Magos, el 6 de enero, pero Papá Noel y la entrega de regalos en Nochebuena se han hecho populares, de modo que ahora los regalos se entregan en ambos días. No está mal, ¿verdad?
DE| Adventskalender und Sankt Nikolaus sind in Andalusien wenig bekannt oder besser gesagt nur aus dem Supermarkt. Die Geschenke gibt es für die Kinder normalerweise an Heilig Drei König am 6. Januar , aber inzwischen hat sich der Papa Noel und das Schenken auch an Heiligabend durchgesetzt, so daß es nun an beiden Tagen Bescherung gibt. Nicht schlecht, oder?
EN| As in Germany the Christmas cookies, there are also in Spain typical Christmas pastries: such as the Polverones (very crumbly lard pastry similar to our shortbread cookies) or the Roscón de Reyes (a yeast dough ring filled with cream and fruits). A must is the Turrón (a kind of nougat or marzipan) made of almonds, chocolate and nuts. It is cut into small pieces and eaten with coffee or sherry. When it comes to turrón, you should go for quality and buy it from one of the traditional confectioners, for example in Medina Sidonia. If you prefer to stick to what is familiar to you, you can find gingerbread (lebkuchen) and stollen (kind of fruitbread) in the supermarkets Aldi and Spar. By the way, the very best Advent stollen of my life I found in the German bakery "Das Brot". Delicious.
ES| Al igual que las galletas navideñas de Alemania, también hay pasteles típicos de Navidad en España, como los polverones (pastas de manteca muy grumosas parecidas a nuestras galletas de mantequilla) o el roscón de reyes (un aro de masa de levadura relleno de nata o crema y fruta). Imprescindible el turrón de almendras, chocolate o nueces. Se corta en trozos pequeños y se come con café o jerez. En cuanto al turrón, hay que apostar por la calidad y comprarlo a uno de los productores tradicionales de confitería, por ejemplo en Medina Sidonia. Si prefieres ceñirte a lo conocido, puedes encontrar pan de jengibre (lebkuchen) y stollen (pan dulc con frutas secas) en los supermercados Aldi y Spar. Por cierto, encontré el mejor stollen de Adviento de mi vida en la panadería alemana "Das Brot". Delicioso.
DE| Wie bei uns die Weihnachtsplätzchen, gibt es auch in Spanien typische Weihnachtsbäckerei: wie zum Beispiel die Polverones (sehr krümeliges Schmalzgebäck ähnlich unseren Mürbteigplätzchen) oder der Roscón de Reyes (ein Hefeteigring gefüllt mit Sahne oder Creme nd Früchten). Ein Muß ist der Turrón (eine Art Nougat bzw. Marzipan) aus Mandeln, Schokolade und Nüssen. Er wird in kleine Stücke geschnitten und zum Kaffee oder Sherry genascht. Beim Turrón sollte man auf Qualität setzen und ihn bei einem der tradidionellen Süßwarenhersteller zum Beispiel in Medina Sidonia kaufen. Wer lieber beim Vertrauten bleibt, findet in den Supermärkten Aldi und Spar Lebkuchen und Stollen. Übrigens, den allerbesten Adventsstollen meines Lebens habe ich in der deutschen Bäckerei "Das Brot" gefunden. Köstlich.
EN| Finally a brief word about the climate. It gets cooler in winter in Andalusia as well, even if it heats up quickly during the day in the sun. DE| Abschließend noch ein kurzes Wort zum Klima. Es wird im Winter auch in Andalusien kühler, auch wenn es sich tagsüber in der Sonne schnell aufheizt. Dieses Jahr hatten wir einen herrlich sommerwarmen Dezember verbracht, allerdings auch mit einige Regentage, dafür sind die Strände menschenleer. By the way, we don't talk about "Christmas Eve" or "New Year's Eve", but about "Nochbuena" (= December 24th) and "Nochevieja" (= December 31st). Two terms that I easily confused at the beginning.
