EN| Come with me. Today we will enter the southernmost point of the European continent. It is at the same time the place where the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean encounter.
ES| Ven conmigo. Hoy pisaremos el punto más del sur del continente de Europa. Al mismo tiempo es el lugar donde el Mar Mediterráneo y el Mar Atlántico se encuentran.
DE| Komm mit mir. Heute betreten wir den südlichsten Punkt des europäischen Festlandes. Gleichzeitig ist dies genau die Stelle, wo das Mittelmeer mit dem Atlantik zusammentreffen.
EN| The sothernmost place of Continentel Europe is not Gibraltar, but a small, stony island offshore Tarifa. The distance of 150 m has been bridged by a dam in 1808 so you can just have a walk to the other side. At last the island was used as fortification and barracks. Now is is part of the nature reserve Parque Natural del Estrecho.
ES| El punto más del sur del continente europeo no es Gibraltar sino una isla pequeña y pedregoso situada delante de Tarifa. La distancia de 150 m está superado por un terraplén en 1808 para que se pueda llegar caminando fácilmente al otro lado. Por último la isla sirvió a modo de fortificación y cuartel. Hoy día forma parte del Parque Natural del Estrecho.
DE| Der südlichste Punkt vom europäischen Festland ist nicht Gibraltar, sondern eine kleine felsige Insel, die Tarifa vorgelagert ist. Die Entfernung von 150 m wurde seit 1808 mit einem Damm überbrückt, so daß man ganz einfach zu Fuß hinüberspazieren kann. Zuletzt wurde die Insel als Befestigungsanlage und Kaserne genutzt. Heute gehört sie zum Naturpark Parque Natural del Estrecho.
HOW TO ARRIVE | COMO LLEGAR
EN| It's very easy to find. In Tarifa we walk downhill the main road (Avenida de Andalucía) till the harbor, pasing the bunkers in direction to the sea and we are already there.
ES| Es muy fácil de encontrar. En Tarifa seguimos la calle principal (Avenida de Andalucía) siempre cuesta abajo hasta el puerto, pasamos los bunkers en direción mar y ya estamos.
DE| Es ist ganz einfach zu finden. In Tarifa gehen wir die Hauptstraße (Avenida de Andalucía) immerbergabwärts bis zum Hafen, weiter vorbei an den Bunkern Richtung Meer und schon sind wir da.
EN| Oh yes, as you can see sometimes there is traffic on the way to the southernmost point of Europe continent. And this for nothing? Still it is not allowed to enter the island. At the end of the dam you are standing in front of closed doors.
ES| Vaya, como puedes ver a veces hay mucho trafico en el camino hacía el punto más sur del continente europeo. Y eso para nada? Todavía no se puede entrar a la isla. Al final del terraplén estamos delante de puertas cerradas.
DE| Okey, wie Du sehen kannst, ist manchmal ganz schön viel los auf dem Weg zum südlichsten Punkt des europäischen Festlandes. Und das völlig umsonst? Das Betreten der Insel ist immer noch nicht möglich. Am Ende des Damms stehen wir vor verschlossenen Türen.
EN| Nevertheless it's worth it to visit the island Isla de las Palomas. For me each time it es a great experience. First of all we are in spite of everything at the #southernmostpoint. The African continent is only 14 km away and we have a beautiful view to this completely different world.
ES| Sin embargo vale la pena de visitar #Laisladelaspalomas. Para mí cada vez es una experiencia maravillosa. En primer lugar nos encontramos después de todo en el punto más del sur. El continente africano se encuentra sólo a 14 km distancia y tenemos una vista bonita a este mundo tan diferente.
DE| Es lohnt sich trotzdem, die Isla de las Palomas zu besuchen. Für mich ist es jedes Mal ein großartiges Erlebnis. Erstens befinden wir uns trotz allem auf dem südlichsten Punkt. Der afrikanische Kontinent ist nur 14 km entfernt und wir haben einen wunderschönen Ausblick hinüber in eine ganz andere Welt.
EN| But really exciting is that the dam to the Isla de las Palomas marks the separating line between two seas. Exactly here the Mediterranean and the Atlantic sea are meeting. And as diferent as the seas are the beaches. At the left side (Mediterranean) mini beach Playa Chica, no wind, calm water plane, white sand, many people. On the right side (Atlantic) the miles long beach Playa de los Lances, very windy, strong waves, less bathers. It's really such a stunning contrast as you can see at the following pics.
ES| Pero realmente excitante es que el terraplén forma la linea divisora entre dos mares. Exactamente aquí se encuentran el Mar Mediterraneo y el Atlantico. Y tan diferente como los mares son también las playas. En el lado izquierda (Mediterraneo) la mini playa Playa Chica. Protegido del viento, tranquila superficie del agua, arena blanca, mucha gente. A la derecha (Atlantico) la playa de varios kilómetros de Playa de los Lances, mucho aire, muchas olas, pocas bañistas. Un contraste increiblemente como puedes ver en los siguientes fotos.
DE| Wirklich aufregend ist aber, daß der Damm zur Isla de las Palomas die Trennlinie zwischen zwei Meeren bildet. Genau hier treffen das Mittelmeer und der Atlantik aufeinander. Und so unterschiedlich wie die Meere sind auch die Strände. Auf der linken Seite (Mittelmeer) der Mini-Strand Playa Chica. Windgeschützt, stille Wasserfläche, weißer Sand, viele Menschen. Auf der rechten Seite (Atlantik) der kilometerlange Strand Playa de los Lances. sehr windig, starker Wellengang, wenige Badegäste. Ein unglaublich starker Kontrast wie Du auf den folgenden Bildern sehen kannst.
EN| And going back we will get another highlight, namely we will have an awesome panoramic view all over Tarifa. Again take another look at the contrast between the two sides!
ES| Y cuando regresamos entonces nos da otro momento estelar ya que tenemos una vista maravillosa panorámica de Tarifa. ¡Mira otra vez el contraste entre los dos lados!
