EN| The picture above shows you how the coffee shop lookes like after its renovation. It is the small house in the middle with the metal grid. It is located in a typically Cuban neighborhood. Due to the continuous shortage of construction material often the second floor is erected later as you can see with the neighbour houses.
ES| En la foto de arriba puedes ver el aspecto de la cafetería después de su renovación. Es la pequeña casa en el medio con la reja de metal. Está ubicada en un barrio típico cubano. Por la permanente falta de material , la segunda planta muchas veces será construida más tarde como lo puedes ver con los vecinos.
DE| In dem Bild oben kannst Du sehen, wie das Café nach seiner Renovierung aussieht. Es ist das kleine Haus in der Mitte mit dem Metallgitter. Du befindest Dich hier in einer typisch kubanischen Wohnsiedlung. Da es ständig an Baumaterial fehlt, wird ein zweiter Stock oft nachträglich angebaut, so wie bei den Nachbarhäusern.
EN| A typical Cuban coffee shop is completely different from what we imagine. There are no seats. Selling takes place through a window. Therefore I often missed a coffee shop totally ignoring it. Cuban people have breakfast at home or, they buy rushing to work a coffee and sandwich to go. Coffeehouses with a broad offer of breakfast which we use to visit at Sunday you cannot find almost nowhere. Only in Havana this habit is already trending.
ES| Una cafetería cubana es completamente diferente a lo que nos imaginamos. No hay asientos. Se vende por la ventana. Así que muchas veces me pasó que había saltado de verla. Los cubanos desayunan o en casa o se compran en la calle un café y un sandwich para llevar. Cafeterías con ese ritual de desayuno completo de que disfrutamos los domingos en gran parte no hay en Santiago. En La Habana sí, ya esta costumbre está avanzando.
DE| Ein typisch kubanisches Café ist ganz anders als wir uns das vorstellen. Es gibt keine Sitzplätze. Der Verkauf findet über ein Fenster statt. Mir ist es schon oft passiert, daß ich deshalb ein Café völlig übersehen habe. Kubaner frühstücken entweder zu Hause oder sie kaufen sich schnell einen Kaffee und ein Brötchen zum Mitnehmen. Cafés mit einem reichhaltigen Frühstücksangebot, wie wir das oft sonntags zelebrieren, gibt es in Santiago weitgehend nicht. Nur in Havanna hat sich dieser Trend schon etwas durchgesetzt.
EN| Who knows Cuba already, knows also that this above presented range of goods really is lusciousness. For private coffee shops and bars it is so super difficult to obtain items. Therefore it can be that you cannot find any beer type Bucanero for weeks. Due to the worldwide crisis, this situation still has become worse. Cigarettes and chewing gums are sold separately because the normal Cuban cannot afford to buy a whole package. But one thing you will always get: a good coffee and a good Ron.
ES| Quien ya conoce a Cuba sabe que este pequeño surtido de la foto de arriba presenta verdaderas manjares. Para cafeterías y bares particulares es superdificil conseguir mercancía. Asi que puede ser que durante semanas no se puede encontrar niguna cerveca de la marca Bucanero. Está situación se ha peorado todavía por la crisis mundial actual. Cigarillos y chicles se vende uno por uno porque el cubano o la cubana normal no puede permitirse a comprar un paquete entero. Pero una cosa encontrarás sin duda: un buen café y un buen oncito.
DE| Wer Kuba schon kennt, weiß, daß das kleine Angebot oben im Bild echte Köstlichkeiten sind. Für private Cafes und Bars ist echt superschwierig an Ware zu kommen. So kann es sein, daß oft wochenlang kein Bier der Marke "Bucanero" zu bekommen ist. Durch die weltweite Krise hat sich das noch verschärft. Zigaretten und Kaugummis werden einzeln verkauft, da sich der Kubaner gar nicht eine ganze Packung leisten kann. Aber eins wirst Du immer bekommen: einen guten Kaffee und einen guten Ron.

Wilmer is a really good friend of mine and will attend you with authentic Cuban heartiness and, above all, fair-minded and with an awesome service. By the way, the name "GIsela y sus hijos" means "Gisela and her sons"and is a homage to the mother of Wilmer who died two years ago.

Wilmer es un amigo hermano y te atenderá con ese encantador cariño cubano y sobre todo con sinceridad y lo mejor servicio. El nombre "Gisela y sus Hijos", por cierto, es un homenaje a la madre de Wilmer que falleció hace dos años.

Wilmer ist ein ganz besonderer Freund und wird DIch mit echter kubanischer Herzlichkeit, und vor allem Ehrlichkeit und bestem Service bedienen. Übrigens bedeutet der Name " Gisela y sus Hijos" so viel wie "Gisela und ihre Söhne" und ist eine Hommage an die Mutter von Wilmer, die vor zwei Jahren gestorben ist.

EN| From 15th of november 2021 Cuba has opened its border for turism and traveling through Cuba is possible again. Precondicion is only a PCR test or a vacination certificate (status quo 11/2021). But please check out before your trip the actual entry regulations by all means, for example at the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
For me Santiago es the most Cuban city of all, also compared to Havana. A melting polt of african and spanish culture, home of Santería, hot, magic and pure rythm. A must have for all Cuba traveler.
ES| Desde el 15 de noviembre 2021 Cuba ha abierto sus fronteras a los turistas y viejar por Cuba es posible otra vez. Para la entrada se requiere solamente un test PCR o un certificado de vacunación (status quo 11/2021). Pues, vámonos a Santiago de Cuba. Pero por favor infórmate antes de tu viaje por los disposiciones de entrada actuales, por ejemplo en las páginas web del Ministerio de Asuntos Exteriores.
Para mí, Santiago es la ciudad más cubana de Cuba, también en comparación con La Habana. Un crisol de las culturas africanas y españolas, patría de la santería, calor, magía y ritmo puro. Un deber para viajeros.
DE| Seit 15. November 2021 hat Kuba seine Grenzen für Touristen geöffnen und das Reisen durch Kuba ist wieder möglich. Voraussetzung für die Einreise ist nur noch ein PCR-Test oder ein Impfnachweis (Stand 11/2021). Also, los geht's nach Santiago de Cuba. Bitte informiere Dich aber unbedingt vor Deiner Reise tagesaktuell über die Einreisebedingungen, zum Beispiel auf den Seiten des Auswärtigen Amtes.
Santiago ist meiner Meinung nach die kubanische Stadt schlechthin - auch im Vergleich zu Havanna. Ein Schmelztiegel afrikanischer und spanischer Kultur, Heimat der Santeria, Hitze, Magie und Rythmus pur. Ein Muß für Kuba-Reisende.
